IBPS Syllabus

The Institute of Banking Personnel (IBPS) conducts a countrywide exam to recruit huge number of candidates for various posts in the participating banks. The various tests that the IBPS conducts for the recruitment in different posts are:

I. IBPS PO

II. IBPS SO

III. IBPS Clerk

IV. IBPS RRB

The syllabus for these tests is a lot similar to each other. Here is a basic overview about the syllabus for all the aforementioned tests.

I. IBPS PO:

For the post of IBPS PO, the test is conducted in three phases i.e. the prelims, the mains and the interview.

In the prelims exam, the question set includes 3 sections as:

  1. Reasoning Ability
  2. Quantitative Aptitude and
  3. English Language.

The mains exam includes two new sections along with the abovementioned sections as:

  1. General Awareness and
  2. Computer Knowledge. 

II. IBPS SO:
This test recruits officers for various fields like Law Officer, IT Officer, Agricultural Field Officer, HR/ Personnel Officer, Marketing Officer (Scale I) and it is also conducted in three phase i.e. the prelims, the mains and the interview.

The prelims exam will include questions from the following sections:

  1. Reasoning
  2. Quantitative Aptitude and
  3. English Language.

For the Law Officer and Rajbhasha Adhikary, Quantitative Aptitude is replaced with General Awareness section.

From 2017, the mains exam for IBPS SO will only contain a Professional Knowledge paper.

III. IBPS Clerk:

For IBPS Clerk recruitment, IBPS conducts a two phase recruitment process comprising of only prelims and mains.

The prelims section will include the following sections:

  1. Reasoning Ability
  2. Numerical Ability and
  3. English language

The mains will then include two more sections as:

  1. General Awareness and
  2. Computer Knowledge

IV. IBPS RRB:

IBPS RRB recruitment includes Group A Officers (Scale 1, Scale 2 and Scale 3) and Group B Office Assistants.

For the Office Assistants and Scale 1 officers two exams is conducted i.e. the prelims and the mains.

The prelims will include the following two sections:

  1. Reasoning and
  2. Quantitative Aptitude.

In the mains paper, three more sections are included along with the abovementioned sections in the prelims and they are:

  1. General Awareness
  2. English and Hindi Languages and
  3. Computer Knowledge.

The Scale 2 Officers (General banking/Specialist Cadres) and the Scale 3 Officers will be recruited through a single examination.

The syllabus for Single examination for Scale 2 officers (General banking) and Scale 3 Officers are same and comprise of five sections as:

  1. Reasoning
  2. Quantitative Aptitude and data Interpretation
  3. Financial Awareness
  4. English and Hindi Languages and
  5. Computer Knowledge

It should be noted that the single level exam for the Scale 2 Officers (Specialist Cadres) will consist of one more section as Professional Knowledge section.
