Common Admission Test, commonly known as CAT is a national level entrance exam for management courses, held by the participating Indian Institute of Management (IIM). IIM, Bangalore conducted CAT 2016, and it took place in 2 sessions, on December 4th, and the CAT 2016 results were declared on January 9th, 2017. 20 candidates scored 100 percentile in Common Admission Test 2016.

Eligibility Criteria for CAT 2017

The minimum eligibility criteria required to apply for CAT 2017 is as follows,

• For candidates belonging to General Category, a minimum of 50% marks scored in Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification, which is recognized by HRD ministry, India.

• Candidates who are appearing for graduation examination in 2017 are eligible to apply but have to submit the required documents by June 30, 2017.

• Candidates who are awaiting their results are also eligible to apply and the same rule as above, holds good for them as well. The required documents have to be submitted on or before June 30, 2017.

The candidates should verify the eligibility, as IIM scrutinizes it at several stages through the selection process

How to Register for CAT 2017?

Candidates applying for CAT 2017, should follow a few guidelines to register for CAT 2017 successfully. The registrations will be open from August 2017, tentatively.

• Visit the official website iimcat.ac.in

• Fill in the necessary details like name, date of birth, a valid email address and mobile number. These details help to generate a password.

• By using the credentials, log in to the official website.

• Click the link – “Application form” and fill in the details.

• Upload the photo and required documents in the prescribed format. (Candidates belonging to categories like NC-OBC, SC, ST and Physically disabled must upload supporting certificates)

• Select the management program you are interested in enrolling into

• Choose the preference city to take CAT 2017 exam (a maximum of 4 cities can be chosen)

• Make the fee payment through credit card or debit card

• After the completion of payment, you will receive a confirmation mail on your email id

• Take a print out of the filled application form for future reference.

CAT 2017 – Exam Pattern

CAT exam duration is 180 minutes, and it is divided into three sections. CAT is a computer based examination

• Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VRC) – 60 minutes

• Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) – 60 minutes

Marking Scheme

• For a correct answer/response: +3 marks

• For an incorrect answer/response: -1 mark

CAT 2017 – Admit Card

CAT Admit card will be released in the month of October 2017, and the candidates can download the admit card which contains the essential details like,

• Name of the candidate

• Date of CAT exam

• Session time – Forenoon/Afternoon

• Address of the CAT Exam center

• Registration number

• PWD/DA Status

CAT 2017 – Admission process

After the release of CAT scores, IIM, and other B-schools release the cutoffs and the selection procedure commences. Depending on different IIM, the process involves,

• Written Ability Test – WAT

• Group Discussion – GD

• Personal Interview – PI

Apart from candidate’s performance in these stages, prior work experience and academic performance are important criteria for considered by IIM for the admission process.
