Pre-loaded Sim Card for Tourists arriving in India on E-visa launched
  • This initiative will facilitate the foreign tourists in communicating with their acquaintances immediately after their arrival in India
  • The initiative has been launched in association with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., (BSNL)
  • Sim cards will be pre-loaded with a value of Rs. 50 talk time and 50 MB data and will be activated on immediate basis
  • BSNL would distribute pre-loaded SIM Cards to foreign tourists arriving in India on e-Visa.  This facility will be initially available in the Indira Gandhi International Airport (T3 Terminal), New Delhi and later will be expanded to remaining 15 international airports, where e-Visa facility is currently available.
  • It should also be noted that earlier, the Ministry of Tourism had also launched a 24 x 7 Tourist Helpline 1800111363 in Twelve foreign languages so that the foreign tourists can get the required information in their own language

 

PSLV-C37 successfully launches 104 satellites in a single flight
  • This is the 39th journey of launch vehicle-PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle)
  • Out of 104 satellites
    • Cartosat-2 series
    • Two ISRO Nano-Satellites (INS-1 & INS-2)
    • 96 satellites from USA
    • 1 satellite each from Netherlands, Switzerland, Israel, Kazakhstan and UAE

About PSLV

  • The first flight of PSLV was in 1993
  • It is a 4 stage launch vehicle
  • The maximum number of satellites that it had carried last time was 10 satellites in 2008
  • It has broken the records set by Russian Space agency which had sent 37 satellites at a go and NASA which had sent 29 in a go

About Cartosat

  • These are indigenously built earth observation satellites
  • The Cartosat-2 will be the 5th in the Cartosat series
  • The images from Cartosat-2 series satellite will useful for
    • Cartographic applications
    • Urban and rural applications
    • Coastal land use and regulation
    • Utility management like road network monitoring, water distribution,
    • Creation of land use maps
    • Change detection to bring out geographical and manmade features and various other Land Information System (LIS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) applications.
