Alternate Options After the JEE Mains

JEE Main

Difficult, lengthy and confusing were few adjectives from the candidates to describe the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted by the CBSE on 2nd April 2017. The mathematics section, as usual, was a bit tricky and was the reason for despair among so many candidates.

This year almost a million candidates appeared for the JEE exam and only 10% of them will qualify. So, the candidates in the midst of this situation are in turmoil and wait anxiously for the results. In this article, some of the best alternative options are provided that would ensure equal career opportunities for the students.

Best Alternative Options After JEE

  • Prepare for the advanced

If one is confident enough to clear the Mains exam, then it is suggested to prepare well for the advanced. This will ensure admission in the best colleges in the country including IITs and NITs.

Generally, students with a score of 180-200 can easily get into the NITs, while the IITs require the advanced score also. So, it is really important that this duration is put to good use.

  • Prepare for other Entrance tests

For the students who are not confident enough to clear the Mains exam but are determined to do Engineering, there are various other entrance tests conducted by private Universities like VITEEE (for VIT), BITSAT (for BITS), SRMEE (for SRM), etc.

So, analyze the mistakes made in the Mains exam and prepare for these entrance tests strategically.

  •  Explore other courses

Being a student from the science background, there is a vast sea of opportunities and engineering is just an island there. Students who are interested in other different carriers can pursue various BSc. programs like BSC. in Maths, Physics, etc.

Other high career oriented courses include LLB, BBA, Hotel Management, BCom, etc.

  • Overseas study

There are numerous excellent technical institutes in various countries that offer excellent professional career prospects.

As studying abroad requires heavy financing, for some, this is an excellent option while some believe that travelling abroad for the undergraduate course is not a good idea but doing masters is good.

The students wishing to study abroad will require a student visa and will have to clear their SATs and other exams.

  • Join the Defence services

One of the most prestigious and adventurous jobs is defence jobs. Students who wish to serve the nation can think of this alternative and appear for different exams recruiting personnel for the defence forces including the Army, the Navy or the Air Force.

  • Take a year drop

If for a student getting into the IITs or NITs was always a dream and is confident enough to crack the JEE Mains exam and the Advance exams next year with a good score, he/she can take a year drop and prepare for the next JEE exam.

Since dropping a year is never suggested, so this step should be taken if a student is ready to be focused and dedicated for the entire year to clear the exam next year.

As per the reports, the Government is planning a new entrance test like NEET for all the engineering colleges across the country. So there are huge opportunities ahead and any decision should be taken by analyzing the present scenarios and personal interests so that the right choices are made with no room for regrets.
