After months of anxious waiting, JEE Main 2017 candidates finally got to take part in the national level examination on Sunday. Held across 109 cities with more than two thousand centres, JEE Main 2017 was a successful event.
The B.E/B.Tech question paper pattern for JEE Main 2017 was very similar to the question papers of the last five years. It had multiple choice questions and objective type. There thirty questions each from math, chemistry and physics. For every right answer, candidates will receive four marks and one mark will be deducted for every wrong one. Questions left unattempted will have no negative marking.
The question paper was set from class 11 and 12 CBSE syllabus and most of the questions needed analytical skills along with conceptual. Out of all the 90 questions, 12 were extremely difficult, and 53 were difficult and 25 were easy.
In the D set of the Physics paper, The paper was easy compared to last year. 6 questions were tough, 16 were average and 8 were easy. Top score is expected to be around 120 in this section while a student who has prepared hard to the JEE can score over 75 in this paper. Questions 34 and 54 were tough and required advanced analytical ability which is beyond NCERT books ability.
Chemistry also has two to three questions that required conceptual applications and understanding. This section was also relatively easy and based on the NCERT. However, there were 3 questions in Organic chemistry that were quite tricky. Once again, the top score in this section is expected to be around 115 while a student who has prepared hard to the JEE can score over 70 in this paper.
Coming to mathematics, question number 29 in set – D was controversial and had few very lengthy questions. It was the toughest of the three mainly because it was lengthy. At least 5 questions were very involved and also of the advanced level. Top score will be around 100 while a student who has prepared well can expect around 60 marks.
But compared to the JEE question paper of last year, the JEE Main 2017 question paper was relatively easier.Overall, Expectations:
- Top score: Between 330-340 marks
- Good score (rank 5000): Between 215 and 230 marks
- Cut off score: Between 100-105 marks
