  1. It is defined as a physiological state where the body is undergoing discomfort in performing normal activities.
  2. There are four types of disease, which are given below;

Infectious diseases:

  1. Diseases that are caused by microbes are called infectious diseases.
  2. Such diseases can be transmitted from one individual to another, causing harm.
  3. The spread of disease can be either from direct contact or indirect contact.
  4. For example, influenza is caused by the influenza virus.

Hereditary diseases:

  1. A disease that is caused due to a mistake in the genetic makeup of the organism is defined as a hereditary disease.
  2. Such diseases are not transferred from one person to another.
  3. For example, cystic fibrosis is caused by the mutated gene CFTR.

Deficiency diseases:

  1. A disease that is caused due to insufficient supplies of nutrients or vitamins for the body results in abnormal conditions.
  2. These diseases also do not transfer from one person to another.
  3. For example, scurvy is a disease caused by vitamin C deficiency.

Physiological diseases:

  1. A disease that is caused due to the disorder of the function of tissues or structure of organs and tissues.
  2. For example, Haemochromatosis is caused by excessive iron in the diet.
