What are the five types of microbes?

Microbes:

1. They are also known as microorganisms.
2. They are tiny organisms that can exist as a single cell or as a colony of cells.
3. Because of their small size, they are not visible with naked eyes and can be seen only through a microscope.
4. Microbes can be found in soil, water, air, and inside our bodies, and those of other animals and plants.
5. They can be discovered deep inside geysers (thermal vents), deep under the soil, behind several meters of snow, and in severely acidic settings, where no other species could possibly thrive.

Five types of microbes:

Bacteria:

1. They are unicellular prokaryotes without a nucleus
2. They lack membrane-bound cell organelles except for ribosomes.
3. Example - E.coli

Algae:

1. They are eukaryotic, membrane-bound bacteria.
2. They contain photosynthetic pigments and can prepare their own food.
3. Example - Diatoms

Protozoa:

1. Protozoa are free-living, single-celled or multicellular, membrane-bound microorganisms.
2. They eat mostly rotting and dead stuff.
3. Example - Amoeba

Viruses:

1. They're microscopic organisms with no cellular structure.
2. Example- Adenoviruses

Fungi:

1. They are eukaryotic organisms.
2. They possess nucleus and cell organelles.
3. Example- Yeasts
