The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2017 was conducted in 144 test centres across the country. Last year more than 1.95 lakh aspirants took the computer-based test convened by IIM Bangalore out of the total 2.5 lakh registered aspirants. This year, almost 2.32 lakh candidates registered for the exam.

Like the previous year, 20 candidates have scored 100 percentile in CAT 2017, but compared to CAT 2016 the profile of the candidates are different. In CAT 2016, all the top 20 candidates were engineers and male while this year the list contains 3 non-engineers and 2 female candidates.

The duration of the examination was 180 minutes. There had been no changes in the number of questions from CAT 2015; CAT 2017 also had three sections:

  • Quantitative Aptitude with 34 questions
  • Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension with 34 questions
  • Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning had 32 questions

The time duration for each section was 60 minutes.

Last year the exam was not particularly “glitch-free.” Some candidates claim that three questions in the quantitative ability (QA) section showed ‘Pi’ symbol on their computer screens instead of what should have ideally been a ‘square root.’ But this year, there were some minor technical glitches in the morning session which were addressed immediately. Overall, the exam was conducted smoothly without any major problems.

The CAT 2017 results have been announced on the official website on 8th January 2018. Students will have to login with the User ID and password to download their scorecard from the official website (www.iimcat.ac.in).
