Things you will need:
- A fuse wire’s piece.
- Small amount of water
- Fine printed text
How to do it:
- Take the fuse wire and loop it at one of its end. The loop should be around 2mm wide.
- Form a droplet of water at one of the wire by dipping the loop into the water.
- Take the setup and use it to look at the fine text.
- You will have to figure out the right distance but once that is done you should be able to view a magnified image.
What’s going on?
The creators of the early idea of microscope made use of small globes of glass that had water in them to achieve the magnification effect. Our setup is similar to theirs. A convex lens is formed due to the shape the water droplets take and refraction occurs in the water droplet making the text larger. Many years later the process of grinding glass to create lenses was flawless.
