Tooth Decay

Tooth Decay

The science fair provides a platform to the students to show their science project result in the form of models, reports and presentations created by themselves.

Aim

To demonstrate substances that cause tooth decay.

Apparatus Required

  • 3 egg shells
  • 1 cup soda pop
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 3 juice glasses
  • A glass of water

Procedure

  • Keep half of an egg shell in three separate glasses. Do not forget to rinse the eggshells before using them.
  • Fill a glass with water, one with glass vinegar and one with soda pop. Take a photo of the three glasses as a proof of how egg shells were at the beginning and after the experiment.
  • Keep the glasses undisturbed for a week. Record your observation every day. Note down as many number of observation as possible.
  • After one week, take another photo and record any final observation. You can notice that all glasses except the one that was filled with water has discolored and decayed egg shells.

By the above experiment, we conclude that soda pop and vinegar break down and discolor teeth, but water has no effect on the tooth.
