Chemistry Worksheets Class 11 on Chapter 10 The s-Block Elements with Answers - Set 1

The s-block elements are those in which the last electron enters the outermost s-orbital. As the s-orbital can accommodate only two electrons, this block contains only two groups: group 1 (or IA) and group 2 (or Il A). They have one or two electrons in their outermost s-subshell, respectively. These are placed on the left-hand side of the Long Form of the periodic table.

The elements of group 1 are called alkali metals, and those of group 2 are called alkaline earth metals. Therefore, alkali metals and alkaline earth metals constitute s-block.
