Air Force Allowances and Perks
With the exception of the conveyance allowances given to IAF Officers stationed in major metropolises, the gross pay is merely the compensation or base Air Force salary. Taxes deductible at source and other appropriate deductions are not considered in the calculation of gross remuneration. Other than the Air Force salary, the following benefits and allowances are provided:
- Military Service Pay: MSP is considered when determining Basic Pay, House Rent Allowance, Dearness Allowance, and pensions.
- Dearness Allowance: The consumer price index, a measure of variations or average price changes that a consumer must pay for a basket of goods and services over time, is directly related to DA.
- Transport Allowance: Flying officers are also eligible for a location-based transportation allowance, or TA. Flying Officers assigned to big metropolises receive a monthly Transport Allowance of INR 3,200 and DA, while those assigned to smaller cities and towns receive INR 1,600 and DA.
- House Rent Allowance: In Class X cities, the Flying Officer HRA equals 30% of the combined Band Pay, Grade Pay, and NPA. Flying Officers in Class Y and Z cities receive 20% and 10% of their Band Pay, Grade Pay, and NPA as HRA.
- Only freshly commissioned officers in the Flying and Technical Branches are eligible for the Flying Allowance, which is worth INR 11,250 per month, and the Technical Allowance, which is worth INR 2,500 per month.
