Extension of CAT registration date: Dates for registration of CAT 2016 was extended till 27th September till 5 PM. Candidates can check the official site for details.
CAT registration consisted of a registration form of five pages with 32 programmes offered by 20 IIMs. Before the registration, candidates should go through the programmes offered by these IIMs to choose the best one that will cater to their career goals. Aspirants can change the preference of programmes even after registering. The window for modification in programmes selected will start from 1st October to 5th October.
If the candidates appear for CAT this year or the upcoming year, then it is the best time to go for MBA/ PGDM from IIMs as they are planning to increase intake in future. A high-level meeting and discussions with the directors of IIMs at IIM Shillong, along with Union HRD Minister, have concluded on a note to double the intake capacity in IIMs institutions for various PG programmes offered in management. The seat count as of now is 9500 and have been proposed to increase to 20,000. Even though no deadline has been fixed, MHRD has instructed the IIMs to submit the plan for expansion soon.
However, Newest IIM’s present plan will be operational before starting the expansion project.
Faculty and Infrastructure may pose a problem
An expansion plan might be a threat to a search for faculties and infrastructure facilities. Doubling of intake capacity also depends on factors listed above have to look for solutions before starting the process.
The batch size of the doctoral programme will increase:
Proposal to increase the batch size in the doctoral programme will help solve the faculty problem in the expansion process. The meeting focused on a hike in the batch size of the doctoral program so that good in-house faculty would be present in case of a crunch. Prime Minister’s Scholarship and fellowship programme will be available for the students who are aspiring to have for the doctoral programme. Thus, the PhD students can solve the issue of the death of faculty while expanding.
Common Admission Test is a mandatory test to appear in order to seek admission in any programme offered by these 20 IIMs. The registration process of CAT 2016 closed on September 27th at 5 PM. The exam was held on December 4th 2016, scheduled in 138 cities pan India.
