Lifestyle Diseases + NFHS
Lifestyle diseases are those diseases that are related to the way in which people live their lives. They are also known as diseases of longevity or diseases of civilisation. The common causes of lifestyle diseases are drugs, alcohol, smoking, unhealthy eating, and also a lack of physical exercise. Diseases impacting on our lifestyle are stroke, heart disease, type II diabetes and obesity. These diseases appear to be more common as nations become more industrialised and people’s longevity increases.
The National Family health survey (NFHS) is a grand survey that is conducted by the International Institute of Population Sciences in Mumbai. The survey is done in many rounds and was designated by the Health and Family Welfare Ministry of the GOI. The NFHS-3 was published in October 2007.
