NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR)
The NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar or NISAR is a mission project between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the US government’s NASA to develop jointly and launch a dual frequency synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite. It is a radar imaging satellite and the first of its kind to use dual frequency. Its proposed uses are in remote sensing in order to examine and understand the natural processes of planet earth. It is estimated to be launched in 2020-21. The satellite will be called the NISAR satellite. In this mission, NASA will provide the L-band SAR, the GPS system, the antenna and the data recorder while ISRO will provide S-band SAR, data transmission system, Bus and the spacecraft integration and testing. The launch will be done by ISRO using GSLV.
