Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY)
The Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (with the Prime Minister as its Chairman) in July 2005. PMKSY envisions the extension of the coverage of irrigation and the improvement of the efficiency of the usage of water. It focusses on complete solutions for source generation, distribution, management, application in the field and other extension programmes. This scheme combines current schemes such as the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (Water Resources Ministry), the On Farm Water Management (Department of Agriculture Cooperation and Farmers Welfare) and the Integrated Watershed Management Programme (Land Resources Department). PMKSY is to be implemented all over the country and an initial funding of Rs.50000 crore has been assigned for it.
