The Members of the Parliament in India enjoy certain privileges that other citizens do not. This is to ensure that they can function without any hindrances and perform all their duties. But, there is also the need to ensure that they do not misuse these privileges. The Privilege Motion in the Parliament can be moved against any member, an in-house committee or even against the whole House, if there is a case of breach of privilege (misuse or disregard of the privileges or immunities enjoyed by the members). The speaker or the chairman of the House has the right to either dismiss or admit the Motion. If admitted, the speaker will entrust the ‘Committee of Privileges’ to find the facts.
