Sagar Mala project
The Sagar Mala project is a tactical port development programme of the Indian government. It is a project aimed at modernising India’s many ports so that coastlines can advanced to be conducive to the country’s growth. The project seeks to develop present ports into new-age state of the art ports and foster development through the integration of ports, industrial clusters and the hinterland, along with effectual evacuation systems via rail, road, coastal and inland waterways that will transform ports into initiators of economic activity along the coasts. The idea is to exploit India’s long coastline of 7500 km and the 14500 km of navigable waterways, including strategic positions on international sea trade routes.
