Solar energy is basically the heat and light emanating from the Sun that is harnessed using technology like solar heating, solar thermal energy, photovoltaics, artificial photosynthesis and solar architecture. Solar energy is one of the most important sources of renewable energy. There are two kinds of solar harnessing technology: passive solar and active solar. They are classified based on how the technologies capture and distribute solar energy and/or convert that energy into solar power. Examples of active solar technologies are photovoltaic systems, solar water heating and concentrated solar power to exploit solar energy. Passive technologies include angling a structure towards the Sun, planning spaces that circulate air naturally and picking materials with a favourable thermal mass or those having light-disposing properties.
