UPSC Exam Cut-off Marks from 2011 to 2016

The UPSC civil services exam is conducted in three stages namely, the UPSC prelims, the UPSC mains and the UPSC personality test/interview round. In each stage, candidates have to score the cut-off marks prescribed by the UPSC in order to clear it and move on to the next stage. In this article, you will read about the cut-off marks that were prescribed for each stage of the UPSC CSE from 2011 to 2016.

What is cut-off?

In simple words, the cut-off mark is the minimum mark needed to secure a place in the rank list and qualify for the next round. For example, suppose there are 200 vacancies in any category, say the general category. That means the UPSC will recruit 200 candidates from this category. In this case, the cut-off mark for the general category is the mark obtained by the 200th general category candidate in the descending order of marks obtained.

In the Prelims exam, only the marks of GS 1 are counted for ranking. In GS2 candidates have to score a minimum of 33.33%. See more about IAS exam pattern here.
