Food is important for all living organisms for survival. Food security means availability, accessibility and affordability of sustenance to all individuals in a nation at all times. But food security denotes something more than getting two square meals. Food security has 3 dimensions:
- Availability of food
Food production within the nation, food imports and the previous year’s stock stored in granaries of Government.
Food is within reach of every individual.
A person has enough money to buy adequate, safe and nutritious food to meet his food requirements.
Thus, food security is ensured in a country only
- If enough food is accessible for all the individuals.
- All individuals have the capability to buy food of satisfactory quality.
- There is no obstruction on access to food.
