Jainism was patronised by the Mauryan Emperor Chandragupta. His grandson Ashoka would later go on to patronise Buddhism. Chandragupta Maurya was the founder of the Mauryan Empire, one of the greatest Indian empires in history.
The Mauryan Empire would leave a lasting legacy on the socio-cultural fabric of the Indian subcontinent for many decades to come.
