Previously, the internship completion date was 31 March 2022 for every academic session.
In its latest public notice, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has announced that the internship completion date for the 2022-23 academic session will be 31 July 2022. In the general academic session, 31 March 2022 used to be the internship completion date.
The decision was made by the MCC in view of a plea filed by final-year MBBS candidates in the Supreme Court. The plea stated that due to COVID-19 duties certain final-year candidates were not able to complete their internship within 31 March 2022. They also highlighted the statement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 3 May 2021, where he wanted NEET PG 2021 exam to be postponed to four more months such that the final year MBBS candidates can indulge in handling COVID-19 mild cases.
The Supreme Court however passed an order where it directed the candidates to present their issues in front of the Central Government and ask the centre to extend the internship completion date to 31 July 2022. The top court order also said that it cannot make any changes to the MCC criteria as it is a “policy domain.”
Previously the NEET PG 2022 counselling was postponed in the view of the National Medical Commission (NMC) increasing the seats in certain medical colleges/institutions/universities for the benefit of the candidates. The counselling was supposed to happen from 1 September 2022. However, as per the media reports, the NEET PG 2022 counselling will likely begin from 19 September 2022.
