Question

For a chemical reaction A+BC+D (rHψ=80kJmol-1) the entropy change rSψdepends on the temperature T(in K) as rS=2T(JK-1mol-1). Minimum temperature at which it will become spontaneous is K,

Solution

The solution of the above question can be solved as:

Step1: rHψ=80kJmol-1, rSψ=2T(JK-1mol-1)

Step 2: According to thermodynamics, G=H-TS

Spontaneity criteria for a reaction, G<0

Thus,H-TS<0

H<TS; H/S<T

Step3: rHψ/rSψ<T

80000/2T<T= 40000 <T2

T=200K

Therefore, The minimum temperature at which the reaction become spontaneous is 200K
