Question

How can you increase the energy stored in an inductor by 4 times?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given data and assumptions.

Self-inductance of the inductor=L

Energy stored in the inductor=EL

Let the current passing through the inductor be I.

Step 2: Find the energy stored in the inductor.

We know that,

The energy stored in an inductor is given as:

EL=12LI2

Where,

ELis the stored energy in the inductor.

L is self-inductance of the inductor.

I is the current passing through the inductor.

Since,

ELI2

Therefore, the energy stored in an inductor is directly proportional to the current passing through the inductor.

If the current is doubled, the energy stored in the inductor will become 4 times.

Hence, the energy stored in an inductor increased by 4 times when the current is doubled.
