How do you find amplitude?

Open in App
Solution

Definition of amplitude :

Amplitude refers to the maximum displacement from the equilibrium that an object in periodic motion shows.

or

The Amplitude is the maximum height from the centerline to the peak (or to the trough).

Another way to find amplitude is to measure the height from highest to lowest points and divide that by 2.

The amplitude of a wave is calculated using the following equation:

x=Asin(ωt+ϕ)

where, x is the displacement in meters.

A is the amplitude in meters.

ω is the angular frequency in radians per second.

t is time in seconds.

Φis the phase shift in radians.
