How do you tell if a function is quadratic or linear?

Linear functions are usually represented as y = mx + b where m is the slope and b is the y intercept. The graph of linear functions is always a straight line.

Whereas, the quadratic functions are in the form f(x) = a(x – h)2 + k, “a” not equal to zero. The graph of such functions is a curve.

Compare the given function with the above general terms and check if the function is linear or quadratic.
