Question

How Does Ionization Energy Increase?

Open in App
Solution

Ionization energy- The energy which is required for the removal of electrons from the atom.

Ionization energy increases as

  • When moving left to right in a period the ionization increases.
  • This is due to the increase in nuclear charge, due to which the outermost electron is more strongly bound to the nucleus.

Therefore, Ionization energy increases while moving across the period.
