Solution

The correct option is D

25mA

Step 1: Given data

From the diagram:

The value of resistance is R1=1000ohm and R3=2000ohm

Let R2 be the resistance across Zener diode.

Voltage across the battery is V=100volt

Voltage across the Zener diode is V2=50volt

Step 2: Apply Ohms Law

V=I×R

Where, V=voltage, I=current, R=resistance

Step 3: Calculate the current passing through as shown in the circuit across 2000 ohm

The Zener diode is parallel to 2000ohm, thus, the voltage across the Zener diode and the resistance is the same.

Therefore, apply formula

I=VRi3=50volt2000ohm

Convert, volt/ohm to mA, we have to multiply by 1000

i3=502000×1000i3=25mA

Step 4: Calculate potential differences across 1000ohm and the electric current

V1=V-V2V1=100-50V1=50volt

So, the electric current passing through it,

i1=50volt1000ohm

Convert, volt/ohm to mA, We have to multiply by 1000

i1=501000×1000i1=50mA

Step 5: Calculate the current through the Zener diode

i2=i1-i3i2=50-25i2=25mA

Hence, option D is correct.
