Question

Is CO a strong bond?

Open in App
Solution

CO: A triple bond is composed of an oxygen atom, a carbon atom, two covalent bonds, and a basic covalent bond that holds carbon monoxide molecules together. Carbon monoxide is identified by the chemical symbol CO.

  1. In these three bonds, two bonds are formed by a covalent bond, and one bond is formed by a Co-ordinate Covalent bond.
  2. A covalent bond is formed by sharing of electrons and a co-ordinate covalent bond is formed by lone pair of electrons.
  3. Carbon monoxide is polar in nature(CO). Unequal charge distribution between Carbon(C) and Oxygen(O)
  4. The :CO: bond, is more powerful than theC=C bond.
  5. The carbon monoxide molecule is properly described by the triple bond between carbon and oxygen atoms.
