Is enthalpy of solution always negative?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The amount of heat emitted or absorbed at a constant pressure throughout the dissolving process is referred to as the enthalpy change of solution.
  2. Depending on the kind of reaction, the enthalpy of the solution Hsolution might be positive or negative.
  3. When the reaction is endothermic, it is positive; when the reaction is exothermic, it is negative.

Hence, the enthalpy of the solution cannot always be negative.
