Question

How many radial nodes are present in 5f orbital?

Open in App
Solution

Radial nodes are the spherical surface region where the probability of finding an electron is zero.

To find out the number of radial nodes in an orbital a formula is used i.e, no. of radial nodes = n-l-1.

( where n = principal quantum number, l = azimuthal quantum number).

Here, n=5&l=3. Therefore, the number of nodes=5-3-1=1.

Hence, 1radial nodes are present in 5f orbital.
