Question

Is water an organic compound ?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student

Water (H2O) is not an organic compound, because it does not have carbon in it.
The compounds which contain C are generally organic compounds. They are recognized by the presence of C and H. Due to carbon's ability to catenate (form chains with other carbon atoms), millions of organic compounds are known.

Hence, water is an inorganic compound, which is studied in inorganic chemistry.
