Amides:

  1. Amide is a molecule that contains a nitrogen atom which is connected to the carbon atom of a carbonyl group.
  2. It is formed by the reaction of a carboxylic acid with amine by the elimination of water molecules.

Uses of amides:

  1. Generally used in the pharmaceutical industry.
  2. Pain killer- Morphine and Demerol.
  3. Anaesthetic- Novocain.
  4. Nasal spray- Ephedra.
  5. Drinking water- Tetramethylammonium chloride.
  6. Carboxylic acid- Intermediates, stabilizers, release agents of fibres, films, surfactants, and soldering fluxes.
  7. Strong solvents- Dimethylformamide, Dimethylacetamide.
