What does Alpha Particle Mean

The alpha particle is a positively charged particle, similar to the helium-4 atom nucleus, naturally released from certain radioactive elements, composed of two protons and two neutrons bound together with a mass of four units and a positive charge of two.

Alpha particles (a) are strongly charged and consist of two protons from the nucleus of the atom and two neutrons. The decay of the heaviest radioactive elements, such as uranium, radium and polonium, produces alpha particles. The effect of exposure to alpha particles on health depends greatly on how an individual is exposed.

Two protons and two neutrons are made up of alpha particles that are bound together into a particle identical to a helium nucleus. There are relatively large alpha particles that carry a double positive charge. They are not very penetrating and can be prevented by a piece of paper.
