# What Does Inverse Mean?

In Mathematics, the word “Inverse” refers to the opposite operation. It means that the operation reverses the process of other operations.

For example, the inverse of the addition operation is subtraction, the inverse operation of division is multiplication operation, the inverse operation of exponents is logarithm, etc.

In Maths, the term inverse is used in different ways, such as additive inverse, multiplicative inverse, inverse functions, and so on.

Now, let us discuss a few examples of the inverse:

The additive inverse of +10 is -10.

It means that which is added to +10, to get a result 0. If -10 is added to +10, we get the result 0.

Multiplicative Inverse:

The multiplicative inverse is the reciprocal of the given number. For example, the multiplicative inverse of 7 is 1/7. It means that which number is multiplied by 7, to get the result 1. If 7 is multiplied by 1/7, we get the result 1.

Inverse Functions:

The inverse function returns the value of the original function. For example, if f and g are the inverse functions, then it should be in the form of f(x) = y, if and only if g(y) = x
