What is a wave barrier?

What is a wave barrier? When the speed of the source is equal to the speed of the wave, a barrier wave is formed in front of the source as each successive wavefront piles on top of each other. This barrier wave is a constructive interference pattern. If the source has to move faster it has to overcome this constructive interference pattern.
