Question

What is K In SHM?

Open in App
Solution

  1. SHM stands for Simple Harmonic Motion, which is described as a motion in which the restoring force is proportionate to the body's displacement from its mean position.
  2. The term k represents the spring constant or a force constant.
  3. The restoring force always moves in the direction of the mean position.
    F=-kx
    where, F is the restoring force, k is the spring constant, xis the displacement of the spring
  4. The formula for angular frequency in the SHM (Simple Harmonic motion) can be written as:
    ω=km
    where k represents the spring constant, m is the mass, ω is the angular frequency.
  5. The spring constant determines exactly how much force will be required to deform a spring. The standard international (SI) unit of measurement for spring constants is Newtons/meter.
  6. A higher spring constant means a stiffer spring, and vice-versa.
