What Is Mayer's Formula?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Mayer 's formula gives the relationship between molar specific heat of a gas at constant volume and pressure
  2. Mayer's equation can be written as
    Cp-Cv=R
Where Cpis the molar-specific heat capacity of an ideal gas at constant pressure, Cv is the molar-specific heat capacity at constant volume and the universal gas constant is R.
  3. Specific heat of a solid or liquid is the amount of heat that raises the temperature of a unit mass of the solid through 1° C.
  4. We symbolise it as C. In S.I unit, it is the amount of heat that raises the temperature of 1 kg of solid or liquid through 1K.
