Question

What is a stoichiometric point in the titration?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Titration is the analytical process used in laboratories to determine the concentration of an unknown solution.
  2. By using known acid-base titrations one can easily determine the concentration of unknown acid and base through titration.
  3. The stoichiometric point or equivalence point is the point where an equal amount of acid and base is present to neutralize the chemical reaction.
  4. The known reagents added to any chemical reaction are called titrant and the unknown solution is called analyte.
  5. Thus, stoichiometry is achieved when enough amount of titrant is added to the analyte to form the product.
  6. At this point the moles of the titrant are equal to the moles of the analyte.
  7. The stoichiometric point is determined by the color change, pH change, the formation of precipitates, etc.
