Question

What is the weakest bond?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Chemical bonds are formed by the interaction of molecules either in an attractive manner or in a repulsion manner.
  2. The weakest type of bonds are the Hydrogen bonds.
  3. Hydrogen bonds are formed when a Hydrogen atom is bonded to more electronegative atom.
  4. The Hydrogen bonds have the electrostatic force of attraction between the molecules.
  5. The electronegative bonding or Hydrogen bonding can be seen in the compounds having elements such as OxygenO, NitrogenN, FluorineF and Hydrogen.
  6. The weakest type of bond is formed when the electronegativity difference is least between Hydrogen and other element.
  7. Example: HCl
  8. Therefore, Hydrogen bond is the weakest bond.
