Solution

The correct option is B

NF3

Explanation of correct option: (B)

  1. In a hydrolysis reaction, the compound breaks down into new compounds in the presence of water acting as a solvent.
  2. There are some conditions of hydrolysis which are as follows.
  3. There must be a low-lying vacant orbital on the metal centre.
  4. And there should not be any steric hindrance.

In NF3, Nitrogen does not have any vacant orbitals. Hence, it cannot be hydrolysed.
Explanation of incorrect options:
Option (A): In PCl3, there is a vacant 3d-orbital on the phosphorus atom and there is no steric hindrance. Hence, it can be hydrolysed.
Option (C): NaCl3 is an ionic compound which will easily dissociate in water.
Option (D): In BF3, boron has a vacant p-orbital which BF3 can undergo hydrolysis.
Therefore, the correct option is B.
