Zeolite materials were first discovered in the 18th century by Swedish chemist Baron Axel Fredrik Cronstedt who is also known as the founder of modern mineralogy. He noticed that rapid heating of the material produced large amounts of steam from the water. This was absorbed by the material. Zeolite is derived from the Greek words zeo and lithos which means to boil and stone respectively.
