Question

Why inductor is not used in DC?

Open in App
Solution

Following are the reasons why an inductor is not used in DC:

  1. Inductor works on the principle of changing flux, Since in a DC direction of current is constant so magnetic flux will not change.
  2. When DC is used in a circuit having an inductor the inductor will offer no impedance/resistance and it will behave as a short-circuited path.
  3. If we use an inductor in a DC circuit it will only increase the cost of the system when a simple wire can do the same job.

Hence, inductor is not used in DC.
