Question

Why is induced emf called back of EMF?

Open in App
Solution

Induced emf:

  1. An emf is produced whenever the magnetic flux is changed in a closed circuit.
  2. This emf is referred to as the induced emf, and the current that flows in the closed circuit is referred to as the induced current.

Explanation:

  1. When the key is closed in an induction circuit, the current increases from zero.
  2. As a result, the increasing current causes an induced emf in the same coil.
  3. An opposing induced emf is thus generated during the growth or decay of current in the coil.

Thus, induced emf is also known as back emf.
