Question

Why propanol is soluble in water?

Open in App
Solution

Soluble in water

  1. Positive attracts negative, forming a unified structure.
  2. When polar chemicals or ions are added to water, they disintegrate or dissolve into smaller components and form part of the solution .
  3. Soluble compounds are substances that dissolve in water.

Propanol is soluble in water

  1. We check the polarity or the creation of hydrogen bonding when any organic component is soluble in water.
  2. Propanol is a chemical or a member of the alcohols family.
  3. It is the third member of the alcohols family, which means it has three carbon atoms and a hydroxyl group at the end of the chain.
  4. The formula of propanol is CH3-CH2-CH2-OH
  5. Because the hydroxyl group contains oxygen atoms that may form hydrogen bonds with water, it is water soluble.
  6. However, the length of the hydrocarbon chain of the chemical affects its solubility.
  7. Methanol and ethanol have great water solubility, however propanol and butanol are soluble but not as much as methanol and ethanol due to the big hydrocarbon portion in propanol and butanol.
