From the academic year 2017, Class 12 marks will not be considered for determining Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) ranks for admission towards undergraduate engineering courses. Though the board scores will be an eligibility criterion for a candidate to appear for JEE examination.
HRD Ministry took the decision after a committee of IIT council submitted a proposal on changes in the JEE pattern.
“After examining the Ashok Mishra committee’s report and public feedback, MHRD has decided on a few changes in the JEE pattern for 2017. The present system of allotting 40 per cent weightage to Class XII marks for determining ranks in JEE shall be dispensed with,” an HRD ministry official said. (Source – PTI)
“Class XII scores will be a crucial parameter only for determining the eligibility criteria for the exam. All other JEE examination systems shall remain unchanged” the official added.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to appear in the JEE exam, aspirants will need to score a minimum 75 per cent marks or be in the top 20 percentile in Class XII examination. SC, ST students need to score a minimum of 65 per cent marks in 12th boards.
