Dimensional Formula of Linear Density

The dimensional formula of Linear Density is given by,

M1 L-1 T0

Where,

  • M = Mass
  • L = Length
  • T = Time

Derivation

Linear Density (ρ) = Mass × [Length]-1 . . . (1)

The dimensional formula of mass = [MLT0] . . . . (2)

The dimensional formula of length = [MLT0] . . . . (3)

On substituting equation (2) and (3) in equation (1) we get,

Linear Density = Mass × [Length]-1

Or, ρ = [MLT0] × [MLT0]-1 = [M1 L-1 T0].

Therefore, the linear density is dimensionally represented as [M1 L-1 T0].
