Dimensional Formula of Strain

The dimensional formula of Strain is given by,

[M0 LT0]

Where,

  • M = Mass
  • L = Length
  • T = Time

Derivation

Strain = Change in dimension × [Original dimension]-1 . . . . . (1)

The dimensional formula of length = [M0 LT0] . . . . . (2)

On substituting equation (2) in equation (1) we get,

Strain = M0 LT0 × [M0 LT0]-1 = [M0 LT0]

Therefore, the strain is dimensionally represented as [M0 LT0] = Dimensionless Quantity.
