In 2014, the President of India approved the Institutes of Information Technology Act, which led to the establishment of the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design & Manufacturing, Kurnool (IIITDM Kurnool). The Ministry of Education has provided IIITDM Kurnool with full funding. On August 1, 2015, the Kancheepuram campus of IIITDM Kancheepuram (Tamil Nadu), which serves as its mentor institution, supported IIITDM Kurnool for the beginning of its academic programme. A 151-acre land in Kurnool was given by the Government of Andhra Pradesh to the institute in 2015 to construct a permanent campus.

IIITDM Kurnool Admission
B.Tech Admission
The JEE (Main) and Plus-2 Normalised Scores are used to determine the admission process. The CBSE-published All India Rank is the basis for allocating seats to B.Tech programmes. Only All India Rank is used to determine admission; State Rank is not taken into consideration when applying to IIITs.
Foreign nationals, persons of Indian origin, and non-resident Indians are admitted through Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA).
M.Tech Admission
The admissions to the M.Tech (CSE/ECE) Programme are made through Centralised Counselling. For NITs and several IIITs, as well as other national-level institutes, CCMT is the online admissions process. It is a merit-based admission process that considers a legitimate GATE score and the minimum degree requirements set by the CCMT.
PhD Admission
For PhD admissions, UGC NET, Joint CSIR,JEST, and Institute Entrance Exam is conducted.
